Fiona
Hammacott grew up in Stowupland and attended the Freeman
County Primary School. She progressed to Stowmarket Middle and High
School, which she left in 1994. Many locals will remember
her.
As a child
Fiona became one of the first female choristers to be accepted by
St. Edmundsbury Cathedral, training with Harrison Oxley. She
has gone on to make a successful career as a soloist performing
operatic works, recitals and oratorios all over Europe. She
sung recently with the Stowmarket Choral at St. Mary's Church, Bury
St. Edmunds, has been the subject of a BBC documentary and was
chosen by Kate Rothshild and Ben Goldsmith to be the soloist at
their 'wedding of the year'. Fiona is married to Freddie Tong,
recently singing with the ENO in 'The Pearl Fishers'. They
have two young children.
Hers will be a
generous performance in aid of the church's latest '3Rs' project -
to install a toilet and wheelchair access to the tower entrance of
the church.
Louise
Davis also generously giving her performance, lives locally
in Combs. She has enjoyed a varied career, divided between
teaching and performing - including chamber, orchestral and the
choral concerts as well as 'Light classical'. She moved to
Suffolk in 1982 and became a member of 'Quattrocelli' and the
Suffolk music group. She currently plays in the Clementine
String Quartet, The Lark Quartet and the Isis Piano Trio.
